Tulum
Early start to get ferry back to Belize City. Private mini bus to border of Belize and Mexico. In Mexico caught ADO bus to Tulum. Long day of travel arrived about 7.30 pm.
Caye Caulker - Still Belize
Breakfast of peanut butter and bananas on bagels. Rained all day again. Played cards taught to us by Camilla. Life is very slow on the island. There are no sealed roads and no cars.

Caye Caulker
Caught the bus to Belize city then a ferry to the island of Caye Caulker. Ferry ride was about 50 minutes. Walked up to what is called the split. The sky is a little overcast but the water is a beautiful blue colour. Went for a sunset cruise on a sailing boat. The weather became a little overcast so we returned to shore. We missed the sunset but continued our sail right around the island.

San Ignacio
Went cave tubing for the day. Walked through jungle with inner tube, light and life jacket then floated back through caves. Great fun but unfortunately no pictures.
Extremely hot and humid night. Very little sleep as room lacks ac unless you want to pay $25 US to use it. Just checked humidity it says 94%.
Picture shows view from front balcony of hotel and our room.
Belize seems a little safer than Mexico and Guatmala or at least there are less guns visible.
San Ignacio - Belize
Left Flores at 6 am and traveled by bus to Tikal which is a Mayan site with many ruins. At one stage 100000 lived in the city. It was an amazing place where we were given a guided tour. It started early so it was not too hot and there were very few people around.
Had lunch where we were able to have a swim.
Left Guatemala and headed into Belize. We were picked up at the border by a very old bus which took us to San Ignacio.

Flores
Walked around the island part of which is under water. At the top of hill there is a church with a black Jesus. After lunch we sat around hotel watched preparation for a wedding. In the shopping centre next door there were guards at the front and back entry as well as inside.
Flores
Arrived late in the day after a 4:30 start. Had a quick walk around and over to island across the causeway. Stayed at a hotel on waterfront called the Maya Internacional.
Antigua
Walked to the top of a hill at the edge of town. We had been warned that it could be dangerous as people had been attacked so we went as a group. There were police stationed at the bottom of the 330 steps up the hillside and at the top. The view from the top where there is a large cross was excellent as you could see the layout of the town and the ruins of the various buildings.
Visited a very upmarket hotel that is located in the grounds of an old church or convent. It was quite amazing as there was access to crypts containing skeletons and piles of bones.

Antigua
Went to local cafe for breakfast. We seem to do this most days. Went to a chocolate museum where we learnt about the history of chocolate and they made some chocolate drinks from scratch. After that we made a selection of chocolates. Went for a walk around the markets and then back to a hotel to have a few drinks and take some clothes to the laundry.
We have noticed that lots of the shops have guards outside them. Bank, pharmacy and mobile phone stores have guards carrying large pump action guns.
Like many cities cobbled streets are very common.

Antigua
Arrived in Antigua at about 11 o'clock this morning after 2 hour journey. Did a walk around the city and the markets. Antigua lies in the shadow of a volcano.
